Brain scans of young adults who were spanked as children at least 12 times a year for 3 years, compared to non-spanked young adults, revealed a 15% gray matter reduction in the left medial frontal gyrus, which is responsible for the ability to pay attention and retrieve memories.
Adults who were spanked as children scored 10 points lower on IQ tests.
